Artificial Intelligence (AI) is ubiquitous, and it is transforming the way people get healthcare, for medical research, and clinical care practices. With the rapid advancement of AI technology, many treatments using AI, such as to support clinical decision, and workforce augmentation will continue to emerge. The challenge is to embrace them, while ensuring the safe adoption and deployment of AI in healthcare.

We have progressively put in place safeguards over the past few years. These include Health Sciences Authority’s regulation of multiple aspects of AI Medical Device (AI-MD) development as part of its medical device registration process to ensure the quality, safety, and efficacy of AI-MDs. This is in addition to the requirements on continued post-market surveillance to ensure continued real-world effectiveness. The MOH’s AI in Healthcare Guidelines (AIHGle) guides AI-MD developers and implementers on the good practices they should adopt in rolling out such clinical services to patients. And recently, the drafting of the AI Governance Framework for healthcare that recommends detailed development and implementation-level good practices, such as risk prompts to help identify risks and controls for risk mitigation.

The AI health Roundtable focusses on AI Governance: Achieving a fine balance in AI Governance: Optimising innovation, responsibility, and safety for AI in healthcare which convenes AI practitioners, regulators and implementors to gather expert opinion on AI Governance. The Roundtable will discuss the balancing act between advisory and mandatory approaches in delivering responsible and safe use of AI in healthcare. Participants include AI practitioners, legal professionals, clinicians, academia and regulators.
