Glen Hodgson

Glen Hodgson has over 40 years of experience in global macro-economics, international finance, fiscal policy, climate policy, and other “big picture” topics. Glen’s career spanned the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington D.C., the Canadian Department of Finance, Canada’s export credit agency EDC, and the Conference Board of Canada, a business-oriented applied research organization, where he was Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist for over a decade. His current affiliations include Chief Economist with International Financial Consulting Ltd, and Senior Fellow at the C.D. Howe Institute, an economic think tank. Glen has co-authored two books and written 450 reports, briefings and articles. His recent research has addressed topics such as: the competitive threat of the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act and Canada’s policy response; the development of clean finance, climate risk management and green bonds; the role and governance of state enterprises; and the economics of pro sports. He has delivered many presentations to audiences of all types and sizes, and done numerous media interviews via print, TV, radio and social media. He is a recipient of the Ottawa Economics Association’s award of distinction, recognizing his contribution to Canadian economic analysis and policy. He is a graduate of McGill University (MA and PhD candidate in economics, 1981), and the University of Manitoba (BA (Honours), 1978).
