Irene Umar is an accomplished professional with extensive experience across finance, entrepreneurship, and the creative economy. Currently serving as the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy and Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency of the Republic of Indonesia since October 2024, she brings a unique blend of strategic insight and global perspective.
Irene began her career in banking, holding key roles including Associate Director at Standard Chartered Bank and Assistant Manager at Batavia Prosperindo Asset Management. Her financial expertise is further supported by certifications such as CFA Level 1 and training in financial modelling, credit skills, and shipping finance from institutions in the UK.
She later transitioned into entrepreneurship and venture capital, co-founding Discovery Nusantara Capital (DNC), an investment fund specialising in the gaming ecosystem with a footprint across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and North America. Irene also served as CEO and Founder of W3GG, and Managing Partner at DNC, emphasising her leadership in disruptive and impact-driven ventures.
In the nonprofit sector, she co-founded One Indonesia, a movement dedicated to enhancing education through community engagement. She also served as Treasurer of Yayasan Pendidikan Universitas President.
Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from President University, graduating Magna Cum Laude as valedictorian. During her university years, she demonstrated strong leadership as the founder of the President University Charity Club and co-founder of the Debating Club.
