Michael Van Dorpe is the CEO of Village Island, a Tokyo-based company much active in Japan and Singapore, specializing in advanced IT, broadcast, and satellite technologies. As the East Asia distributor of GEODNET, Village Island promotes decentralized RTK infrastructure that enables sub-meter and centimeter-level precision—crucial for smart city applications. His work places him at the heart of urban innovation, where RTK empowers autonomous mobility, robotics, infrastructure monitoring, and environmental sensing—key enablers of tomorrow’s cities.
Michael began his career after completing a Master’s in Electrical Engineering at UCLouvain (Belgium). He was awarded the prestigious “Vulcanus in Japan” grant from the European Union and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, which led to a one-year research assignment at Asahi Inc., developing advanced signal processing algorithms. He went on to hold key roles at Barco, Panasonic, and SCSK, leading satellite system integration projects for broadcasters and public operators.
Since founding Village Island in Tokyo, Michael has been a trusted and active partner to public and private broadcasters, telecom companies, and satellite operators. He is a fluent Japanese speaker, and his many experiences include serving as director of the Belgium-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce in Japan. Michael is committed to long-term, cross-cultural innovation and is passionate about his work.
