Profile

Currently Rasantha Hettithanthrige holds the position of Chief Technology Officer at Mobitel the National Mobile Communications Services Provider. He has a total of 30 years of experience in Mobile Industry to date, from Analog rollouts to 5G being the latest and currently responsible for the entire Wireless Network of the Group (FWA & Mobile).


He holds a bachelor's degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from prestigious Technical Seat of Learning, University of Moratuwa, member of the IEEE, IET (UK),Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) and Accredited IP3 Professional (IP3P) recognised by the International Professional Practice Partnership (IP3)


He was instrumental in trialling and rolling out Mobile Communication technologies from 3.5G, 4G, 4.5G and 5G for Mobitel, achieving few FIRSTS in the South Asian Region.

He serves as a permanent member of the SL-TMOBITEL’s “Group Technical Sub-Committee” and the “Group Steering Committee for Digital Transformation”. Apart from that Rasantha services in Industrial Consultative Boards of Universities on invitation and has done mentorships for Engineering Undergraduates.


Under Rasantha’s leadership Mobitel has won international awards from PMI USA, Asian Technology Innovation Awards by Business Asia Publications and local entities such as PMI Colombo Chapter and IESL. Latest of his achievement being getting shortlisted for the GLOMO AWARDS at the MWC 2023 this February. Currently he focusses mainly on areas like Metaverse, Autonomous Networks, ORAN and Open API Gateway Project as part of the overall digital transformation of the Group.


From 2020 onwards Rasantha serves as an Executive Committee Member of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka and responsible for driving Special Interest Groups in subjects such as IOT, Industry 4.0, Innovation & Disruption, leadership and address international conferences on invitation. Rasantha continue to engage in executive education at prestigious institutions such as INSEAD & Stanford. Rasantha recently got recognised as StanfordLEAD Scholar as he completed the Stanford University’s flagship Online Business Executive Leadership Program, StanfordLEAD.



Rasantha is currently appointed as the President of the Alumni Association of the Department of Electronics & Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Moratuwa which is the premier Technology Seat of Learning, recognising his contribution to the industry & the University.
