Dr. Eric J. W. Orlowski is a Research Fellow at the NUS AI Institute (NAII), specialising in AI governance and policy. Trained in Science and Technology Studies (STS) and ethnography, his work brings practicable, on-the-ground perspectives to debates often dominated by abstract principles. Over the past few years, Dr. Orlowski has worked across ASEAN with a wide range of stakeholders—from grassroots communities, to MSMEs, and governments—focusing on how governance can be made practical, usable, and responsive to diverse contexts. He is particularly interested in applied governance that supports, rather than stifles, innovation. Dr. Orlowski has also engaged with governance ecosystems in the UK and Nordics, and currently leads research on cultural alignment in AI At NAII.
