Tony Heng, President of Stellar Lifestyle, shared the company’s ambitious vision to transform MRT stations into multifunctional retail hubs. By integrating digital platforms and automation, Stellar Lifestyle aims to enhance the commuter experience. Key to this transformation is partnering with companies like QuickBots, which offers robotic delivery solutions. Heng highlighted the company's focus on convenience, lifestyle services, and seamless digital integration, all designed to create a more engaging environment for Singapore's commuters.

EZLink's Role and Collaboration Opportunities

Nicholas Lee, CEO of EZLink, explored the company's evolving role as a payment provider in Singapore’s public transport system and its potential to drive innovation in retail. Lee pointed to EZLink's ability to leverage vast amounts of consumer data, gathered from its payment systems, to improve business decision-making and enhance customer experiences. Through collaborations with Stellar Lifestyle, EZLink aims to become a data technology company, using insights from commuter behavior to create new retail opportunities.

IMDA's Open Innovation Platform (OIP)

Justin Ng, Assistant Chief Executive of IMDA, introduced the Open Innovation Platform (OIP) as a key driver of corporate innovation in Singapore. OIP connects businesses with global solution providers through crowdsourcing and prototyping challenges, facilitating innovative partnerships. According to Ng, the platform has enabled over 300 challenges and distributed more than $15 million in funding, providing companies like Stellar Lifestyle with access to cutting-edge technological solutions.

AI and Data Analytics in Retail

Allen Chng from Insignia Venture Partners and Justin Ng from IMDA discussed the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics in retail. They emphasized how these technologies can enhance customer experiences, streamline operations, and enable personalized marketing strategies. The panelists also underscored the importance of responsible data usage, with IMDA's Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) providing clear guidelines on data collection, storage, and privacy protection.


QuickBots' Autonomous Delivery Platform

Alan Ng, Founder and CEO of QuickBot, provided insights into the company's autonomous final-mile delivery solutions and the complexities involved in integrating such technology into Singapore’s smart city infrastructure. Challenges such as stakeholder alignment, navigating regulatory frameworks, and digitalizing traditional systems were discussed. Ng emphasised that collaboration among stakeholders and government support are critical to overcoming these hurdles and advancing robotic technologies in urban environments.

Funding and Support for Hardware Startups

During the Q&A session, an audience member raised concerns about the difficulties hardware startups face in securing funding and scaling in the retail tech space. Allen Chng of Insignia Venture Partners addressed these challenges, offering insights into monetisation strategies, go-to-market approaches, and the importance of integrating into the broader ecosystem. He highlighted that while hardware startups often face unique obstacles, there are significant opportunities for those that effectively combine innovation with a clear path to market.
